Read A Lot. Write A Lot.

I just finished Stephen King’s book “On Writing.”  It’s a memoir with writing tips sprinkled in-between.  I like his approach because it doesn’t come across as preachy (like most books trying to sell the craft of how to write).  He tells it like it is in a dry, sarcastic tone.   Not sure what it says about me but I resonate with the no-bullshit method.

Some of my favourite quotes from his book, in no particular order:

  • “Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
  • “The scariest moment is always just before you start.”
  • “Writing is not life, but I think that sometimes it can be a way back to life.”
  • “Writing is telepathy.”
  • “If you write (or paint or dance or sculpt or sing, I suppose), someone will try to make you feel lousy about it, that’s all.”
