The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

A couple of weeks ago, I came across a movie called ‘The Book Thief’, and I was stupefied that I had never heard about it before, even though it came out a year ago. I was immediately taken by the plot and when I found out that it was based on a book by Markus Zusak, I knew I just had to read it. And read it, I did.


What this story is about?

It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still.

‘The Book Thief’ tells the story of Liesel Meminger; a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books…
